Becoming a foster family in El Salvador means giving a temporary home to children and adolescents under a protection measure. The ISNA trains and accredits registered families; first-aid and CPR training is commonly expected as part of the care tools, although no explicit rule imposing it was identified.
The first-aid requirement
The Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo Integral de la Niñez y la Adolescencia (ISNA), together with CONNA, runs programs to train and accredit families for temporary family fostering and substitute family placement. The training stage aims to provide the tools needed for care; current first-aid and CPR training — wounds, choking, cardiac arrest, including pediatric CPR — is a reasonable expectation of that preparation, not an explicit legal requirement identified here.
Training and accreditation are recognized by ISNA and CONNA under the Manual of standards and processes for temporary family fostering. The training is in addition to the family assessment and expected parenting skills, and should be kept current.
How to meet it
A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets this requirement. It is in addition to the required training or assessment, and is renewed periodically.
