Workplace first aid

El Salvador's General Law on the Prevention of Risks in Workplaces (Legislative Decree No. 254, 2010) and its regulations require employers to run a prevention-management program with an emergency plan and workplace first-aid service; workplaces with 15 or more workers must set up an occupational safety and health committee whose members receive initial training in first aid and evacuation. There is no fixed first-aider-per-worker ratio — the requirement is a risk-proportionate brigade capability.

Childcare CPR & first aid

El Salvador's Technical Norm for the Installation and Operation of Early Childhood Care Centers (2023, reformed 2024), Article 74, requires centres to have staff trained in applying first aid, with the annex requiring at least 30% of staff trained in first aid and fire-extinguisher use. The norm sets no hours or expiry but makes that minimum share of trained staff a condition of operation.

Good Samaritan law

El Salvador imposes a legal duty to rescue under Art. 175 of the Criminal Code (Legislative Decree No. 1030 of 1997), 'omisión del deber de socorro', requiring any person able to do so without risk to help someone helpless and in grave danger, or urgently summon help. Failure carries a fine of 50 to 100 day-fines, rising to 6 months to 1 year imprisonment plus fine if the victim was harmed by an accident caused by the person who then omitted aid.

Healthcare professional recognition

In El Salvador nursing is authorized and supervised by the Higher Council of Public Health (CSSP) and the Nursing Profession Oversight Board (JVPE); practice authorizations are permanent with no periodic recertification established by law. The JVPE offers non-mandatory continuing education, and the requirement is met by any recognized continuing-education activity on an eligible topic such as CPR/AED, ACLS or PALS.

Residential care settings

No El Salvador-specific national rule detailing a first-aid staffing requirement for homes for the elderly or elder-care centres was located, though these settings commonly require staff trained in first aid and CPR. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets this expectation, in addition to occupational training and renewed periodically.

Foster families

The Instituto Salvadoreño para el Desarrollo Integral de la Niñez y la Adolescencia (ISNA), with CONNA, trains and accredits families for temporary fostering under the Manual of standards and processes for temporary family fostering; first-aid and CPR training is a reasonable expectation of that preparation rather than an explicit legal requirement. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate meets it, in addition to the family assessment.
