For nurses, being able to initiate CPR and provide first aid is part of the duty of care; for support staff and caregivers, it is a valued credential for working. Here is what is expected for your role — and how recognized, up-to-date, documented training meets it.

In El Salvador, the practice of nursing is authorized and supervised through the Higher Council of Public Health (Consejo Superior de Salud Pública, CSSP) and the Nursing Profession Oversight Board (Junta de Vigilancia de la Profesión en Enfermería, JVPE). Practice authorizations are permanent: there is no periodic recertification established by law.

The JVPE offers continuing-education activities, on a non-mandatory basis, so that staff keep their competencies current. Being able to initiate resuscitation manoeuvres and respond in an emergency remains part of the profession's duty of care.

There is no mandatory periodic recertification nor a nationwide continuing-education hours standard in El Salvador; the JVPE offers non-mandatory continuing-education activities, and keeping competencies current rests with the professional and the employer.

For the elder-caregiver role, no El Salvador-specific national requirement is documented. In regional practice, employers and agencies value and accept a recognized caregiver or first-aid and CPR certificate as a credential for the position; where the role calls for that competency, a recognized standalone certificate meets it and should be kept current through renewal.
